DESCRIPTION:The first Saturday of each month\, these meetings will be held at the Slippery Rock Community Library\, 465 No. Main St.\, Slippery Rock\, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. \nA peer-led group for adult family members\, caregivers and loved ones of individuals living with mental illness. Gain insight from the challenges and successes of others facing similar circumstances. \nNAMI Family Support Group will help you: \n\nTalk productively about your challenges and goals\nFind a community who can relate\nSee the individual first\, not the illness\nRecognize that mental illnesses are medical illnesses that may have environmental triggers\nUnderstand that mental illnesses are traumatic events\nAim for better coping skills\nFind strength in sharing experiences\nReject stigma and not tolerate discrimination\nNot judge anyone’s pain\nForgive ourselves and reject guilt\nEmbrace humor as healthy\nAccept that we cannot solve every problem\nWork for a better future in a realistic way\nBenefit through other’s experiences\nDiscover your inner strength\nLearn how to identify local resources and how to use them
